Did you ‘thrive’, or simply ‘survive’ in 2016?

As we start a new year, I have been giving thought to this site, and what it’s future will be in 2017. What I know for sure is that of all the core concepts this site embodies, and one of the main ideas that I wish to continue to rise to the top is: ‘positivity’. As I’ve said before, one of the main dangers we as chronic illness patients face is a myopic outlook focused solely on how we ‘don’t feel good’. Now, that’s not to say there isn’t a time and place for that. Moreover, there is a level of pain and discomfort that cannot be minimized or ignored.

That being said, the idea I would like to address here is the very real possibility of flourishing within the average day-to-day discomforts of Fibromyalgia. Even though there is always some level of pain with Fibromyalgia, outside of a bad flare day, we can learn how to rise above our less than ideal physical circumstances. This is not possible, however, if we focus, and obsess on how ‘miserable’ we are.

    Congrats on a great year. You have helped so many of us, whether we have FMS or any other chronic disease, thank you so much for your research, time and most of all your optimism. You helps so many of us with the physical effects of our issues, but even more importantly, the mental and emotional part! Can’t wait to see what next year brings.
