Ugh. So you did it again. Remember the vows you made, “I’ll only have a few carrots from the ‘veggie platter.'”, “One small glass of white wine, with club soda in it….that’s it!“, “Fruit, I’ll only allow myself fructose, nothing else!” Then the good caterer showed up with the coconut shrimp, pot stickers, and mini fried eggrolls. Followed by the Brazilians with their quality cachaca, limes, and sugar in tow, where they proceeded to crank out the caipirinhas all night.
So here you are. Thoughts of self-loathing and disgust flood into your consciousness the next morning. An extra 5 lbs of ‘pig-out retention’ glaring up at you from the scale. The ‘loose’ jeans are buttoning a bit snug today. There’s no going back now, and no use beating the crud out of yourself. However, ‘damage control’ is the word for the next couple of days while your body and mind recover from the merry mayhem the weekend has wrought.
This advice is of course for everyone, but especially for those with FMS or any other chronic illness. Your symptoms may be exacerbated by ‘over doing’ it. Practice as much self-care as you are able the day after. If possible, incorporate extra down time in a peaceful place to meditate on things your thankful for. Concentrating on positive, edifying thoughts as opposed to negative, self destructive talk. Whole foods are more important now than ever, as they will flush the extra toxins out of your body and lift your mood.
