‘Self-Care’ Sunday ~ 1/15/2017

Welcome to your day of ‘rest’ & ‘reflection’…

How are you? We’ve made it through another week! Have there been a string of rainy days where you live? Personally, I’m loving the weather here in Phoenix. Yes, there is a bit more aching due to the humidity, but the land is in desperate need of rain here in the desert. So, we take it when we can get it.

Due to the cold and rain, its been a week of warm heavy blankets and binge watching ‘Peaky Blinders’. I LOVE a good Netflix series. ‘Guilty pleasures’ be damned! I am unapologetically waving my ‘Period Piece Binging Flag’ high!

'Self-care' is more that just epsom salt baths and flare management! Click To Tweet

As you know, ‘self-care’ comes in many forms. Sharing knowledge with each other, and encouragement through support are some of the many ways we can be building up ourselves and others as well. Brandi Clevinger of ‘Being Fibro Mom‘, and her husband Tim have started a series of ‘live’ Facebook sessions to do just that. I LOVE these guys! Together they serve the chronic community by imparting their learned wisdom regarding: parenting, marriage, finances, nutrition, ect., all under the backdrop of living & succeeding in spite of chronic illness. Such a supportive couple, both to each other, and to all of us as well! Below is this weeks’ broadcast. Make sure to check this out! Very special!:

Self-Care Community Shares

AAANNNDDD….Drumroll please!….Our ‘Self-Care’ Feature of the week comes from Dianna at ‘Forgiven’! She has supplied us with the mouth-watering collage below of three recipes from ‘across the pond’. From left to right: ‘Priddy Oggies’ from the Southwest of England, ‘Pork Pies’ from the Midlands portion of England, and a ‘Bakewell Tart’ also from the Midlands. Thank you so much Dianna! These look fantastic!!! (you had me at ‘pastry wrapped’!!!)

I took a leaf out of Dianna’s book, and tried a new recipe as well. Baking is an activity that brings me immense pleasure! Below are ‘Snickerdoodle Banana Bread Muffins’ adapted from Shugary SweetsI simply divided the batter in to two muffin pans rather than 2 loaf pans….very good!♥

postpicture300a

  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/3 cup milk (or buttermilk)
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 4 large bananas, mashed
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 Tbsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 2 Tbsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp kosher salt

TOPPING:

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon

Beat butter/milk (I will be using buttermilk next time. I think it will make a moister muffin)/sugar until well blended. Add eggs one at a time and bananas. In separate bowl blend flour, soda, cinnamon, salt. Mix into batter until just blended (do not over beat!). Butter two muffin pans and sprinkle with part of the topping. Fill 3/4 full and sprinkle muffins with remaining topping. Bake at 350 degrees for approx 20 min.

Thank you with all my heart Dianna, for participating in ‘Self-Care Community Shares’ here at ALWR! What did YOU do this week for self-care? Let us know! Remember, it can be ANYTHING: a poem/thought/writing/picture/ ect. Just share the ♥! : kristine@alifewellred.com OR leave info in comment section below!

Thank you, also, for sharing the video. I don’t have time right now to watch it, but will definitely be listening to it tomorrow.

‘Red>, I am blown away. I was diagnosed Fibromyalgia at age 60, 17 yrs. ago, and, no Doctor has ever suggested that cluster of symptoms can be part of the Syndrome. Damn- I have every one of them. Last week my eye doctor told me to use my eye drops more often & I’ll see better.
Thank you, and the others who leave remarks, I feel less isolated. I live South of Bakersfield, CA, in the mountains. I’ve been loving the rain & snow here. The drought has been awful. What I don’t like is this is the first winter the cold has increased my pain. So I think tomorrow I will try the tart. It looks good. Regards, Sandy

You are so welcome Saundra! I do understand feeling isolated, but I have to say, living quietly in the mountains sounds absolutely DREAMY! 😉 Ah well, that’s just me!
Yeah, many doctors are just not on board and up to date with FMS and all of its off shoots. That’s slowly changing though, and there are more sympathetic individuals out there in the medical community than there has ever been before. In that we can be encouraged. I do hope you find one though. It makes the journey SO much easier.
Enjoy your beautiful surroundings, and have a wonderful week! 🙂
