Autumn’s Soul ~ How To Truly Enjoy An Autumn Day

There are some things in life people seem to have strong opinions about.  Fall is one of those things.  As I pop around the internet, there is either an expression of great enthusiasm and excitement, or a irritation with those who gush over the  impending  trifecta of the holiday months.   A dividing line between the ‘Pumpkin Latte Brigade’ and  the ‘Hostile Humbug Hoard’.

How to truly enjoy an autumn day

Now, we all know where I lie on the ‘Autumn O Meter’.  It doesn’t just come from living in the Southwest desert where a drop of rain becomes an ‘event’.  I have loved this time of year ever since I can remember, from when I was growing up in northern California.  Dew on the grass, misty sunshine in the morning, and a heavy/golden/liquid light that spilled over the horizon early in the day.  These are some of my most cherished memories.

I’ve always been a great lover of solitude, even when I was a child.  No matter where we lived, I would seek out those places where I could be alone in natural surroundings and explore all of the wild parts on my own.

For me, this time of year is about filling your soul up.  Rediscovering that smell on the air that only comes to you on cool October mornings.  Even here in the desert where we will have 100 + days for at least another month, there is a slight damp on the lawn early in the day, and the light coming through the windows is not clamoring as loudly as it was in the initial days of summer.

Try to take the time this week if you can, to practice a little healing ‘self-care’.  Go and find the secret places inside yourself only you have the key to.  Go, and find where you left your soul.

I love that you always include yummy recipes in your posts, perhaps it will make up for my dread of the cooler weather! It is so pretty, but the damp cold sends my stupid disease crazy and my body hurts all over! UG! At least I can make some yummy treats to make up for it. I’m sure that’ll help! LOL I’ll eat my way to feeling better!

Living in Phoenix, I don’t have to deal with the extreme cold weather. But, we have a rain system moving through the valley right now, and I’m having a nasty flare up. I know what you mean Lee, have a terrific week though!;)
