Raw Honey Helps Conquer Sugar Addiction ~3 Ways To Use Raw Honey To Control Sweet Cravings

Struggle with keeping control of that overwhelming need for something sweet to eat?

It may seem counter-productive at first glance, but raw honey helps conquer sugar addiction. How can something that is sweeter than refined sugar be good for you? Better yet, how can a sweetener help to fight sugar addiction, and actually be a benefit to your health and wellness?

The answer lies in the type of honey you consume. There are two basic types of honey sold in stores; honey and raw honey. Plain honey is highly processed and pasteurized. The pasteurization process heats the honey in its natural form, and kills all the beneficial enzymes and vitamins. Honey that is processed also has all traces of bee pollen removed. At this point, it might as well be refined sugar.

After posting my last article: ‘Understanding Food Cravings’, one of the main concerns I heard from many of you was over on the issue of controlling sugar cravings. It all starts in the beginning. Human beings are created with a desire for sugar, and it is that first craving that keeps you alive. You see, breast milk contains sugars called oligosaccharides. These are full of wonderful probiotics and life-sustaining goodies designed to impart optimal health to newborns.

Sugar also helps to provide quick energy. It remains a food experience that provides pleasure all throughout our lives. Sugar itself is not bad. The trick is to consume the right type of sugar, and in appropriate, moderate amounts. This is where raw honey comes in to play.*

*{If you are diabetic or have any condition in which you have been forbidden to consume any type of sugar, this information does not pertain to you! Honey is still sugar at its molecular form, so do not eat it. Always seek and adhere to your professional physicians advice.}

Raw Honey Helps Conquer Sugar Addiction ~3 Ways To Use Raw Honey To Control Sweet Cravings

  1. Use raw honey as a substitute sweetener instead of artificial sweetener or table sugar. It gives coffee drinks a rich, velvety taste, and creates another level of flavor complexity in smoothies.

  2. Have a jar of this ‘Sugar Craving’ buster lying around (from Fearless Eating): Equal parts of the nut butter of your choice and refined/unrefined coconut oil, and raw honey to taste. Before you eat the candy bar, boxed cookies, ect., take a spoonful of this first. Give it 5 minutes, and if you still want the candy bar…well, I’d be surprised.

  3. Whenever possible, substitute raw honey for sugar in your baked goods. A few ingredient modifications may need to be made, but the results can be incredibly delicious! Here is one of my favorite raw honey recipes: ‘Honey Bee Cheesecake’, as well as information on how raw honey can help reduce seasonal allergies.

I am a firm believer and lover of raw honey. Scripture mentions honey in 26 bible verses. It is an ancient, natural, organic food that has been used over the centuries for many different purposes. For instance, because honey is the only food that does not spoil, it was used to preserve bodies in ancient Egypt. I think these bees are on to something!

    Yes, I have found that honey does help with the sugar cravings! I’ve been off of mostly all processed sugars for over a year now, and have learned to love honey–I used to hate it! Thanks for these good ideas. I think I’m going to give that candy bar alternative a try now! 🙂

    Most people don’t realize we do have a sugar addiction. As is noted here, it starts at birth and then goes on from there. I will certainly try using honey.

    What we can’t control is the sugar used in so many foods that we purchase. It’s there under names which disguise it. I was surprised to see how many breads touted as “natural” and “healthful” contain sugar. This addiction is extremely hard to avoid.

      You are welcome Larissa! Sugar addiction is an epidemic. Its so hard to find ANYTHING that is not loaded with forms of sugar. Another reason it is so important to stay away from processed foods, and stick close to foods that are close to their source. Have a wonderful week! 🙂
