‘Burn Baby, Burn’ ~ How To Laugh In The Summer Heat With FMS

WOOOOOOOOEEEEEE!  It’s HOT. It’s damn HOT!  The temperature in Phoenix this week has peaked at 113 degrees, and a new record low of 90 degrees was reached this morning.

It’s HOT.  It’s damn HOT!

Heat is no bueno, especially for FMSer’s.  Our temperature gauges are all screwed up as it is, and extreme heat, like extreme cold, wreck havoc on our already compromised systems.

And since we’re on the subject of  ‘heat’, let’s talk tactile allodynia.  This is the official name of that weird symptom we have where our skin hurts or burns when touched:

It comes from a malfunction of specialized nerves, called nociceptors, that sense information about things like temperature and painful stimuli right at the skin. For some reason, our nociceptors start telling our brains that just about any sensation is painful. Researchers believe is part of the central sensitization associated with fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, and a handful of other conditions.

How to laugh in the face of the summer heat even with fibromyalgia

Yet another symptom in the ‘Bizzaro Wonderland’ that is the FMS body.  The skin on the right half of my body toward the middle has felt sunburned for about 2 weeks now.  Again, there is no discernible reason for this.  I am not sunburnt, I do not have a rash, there was no trauma to the area, it just hurts to touch and occasionally feels like ‘sparkler’ burns common in FMS.

Me too Jill! I have even found Rellenos wrapped in egg and served with a verde sauce rather that deep fried in batter in a few more ‘authentic’ Mexican restaurants. If you come across one of these, ORDER IT! You’ll love it 🙂
